the invasion of the body snatchers beatsheet

the film starts with a flash foward in time toward the end of the film and then moves to the start of the film in a form of flash back narrative.
this then carrys on to the docter returning from a convension and meting his secatry at the station she then drives with him. and the first form of abnormal behaviour is descovered when a boy being persued by his mother comes running out in to the road and the shop that before the audence are made to assume was doing fine is shutdown.

the next scene we are intrduced to a lady who we later realise is a main character and is docter pernel's lover. this feeling is portrayed by the non diagetic sound of soft gental music with a slight sense of romance, the actors performance toward eachother aslo reflect the effections of lovers

the second scene is the first implication the audience get that there is something wrong throughout the previous scenes the towns folk have been saying that relatives arent relatives and when the docter goes to see whats the matter he finds what the townfolk say to be but at first he doesnt beleive wilmer the tense and slightly mysterious music giving the impression that something is a miss. then non diagetic sound of the docter speacking from a narative point of veiw

the next scene is when the body is decovered and docter pernel is called out to see from a meal with his lover when the docter reveals the body the shot changes to a shot at a 45 degree angle and encompasses all the characters this may be suggesting that they are all at danger the non diagetic sound also changes as the music changes to a more dramatic tone as the conversation about the strange corpse carrys on the shot again changes to a tracking shot from behind the drinks bar and tracks docter pernel suggesting his importance and power in the scene. this scene continues to docter pernels house where him teddy jack and affter rescuing becky her to

the net scene is when another of docter pernels friends who works in phsychology and convinces him and jack that they are just imaginging it they go to beckys house where docter pernel saw the other body and its not there the dark lighting suggests something is wrong and as an audience are left at the moment to assume what we want. as this section comes to a close we fade into docter pernel and becky in the kitchen with non diagetic romantic music over the speach suggesting these two characters confusing relationship because they are almost a couple.

the next scene everything seems to be alright again with them all convinced that they imagined the whole ordeal they throw a BBQ but when docter purnel goes into the green house he notices these strange seed like pods that seem to be growing the identically replicated people that docter purnel has been hearing about he calls jack and the girls in and sudderenly they all realise the suddern change in nondiagetic sound suggests this is the case and the long shots from the back of the green house also suggest that something is back there that they dont know about yet. they make there escapes separatly from jack and teddy who leave previously

the next scene starts with the non diagetic voice over of docter pernel talking from the future that we saw in the begginng of the film they go to the gas station with the voice over still going and they suspect that the fuel guy had put two seed pods in their trunk they are correct and so burn them. when they arrive at sallys house ( his secretary) there are alot of cars and so the music bulids tension. lots of cross cuts and interlinking fades of police cars and police men looking around show that they are now on the run this scene ends with docter purnel and becky hiding and a fade out affter they kiss.

in the next scene they are descovered and the audience find out that jack and teddy have been taken over docter purnel and becky start to try and find a way to get out of their difficult situation when docter purnel checks through the curtain on the other infeted people the shot changes to a perspective shot from docter purnel to put the audience in his shoes they stab the infected people waiting for them to become infected with a drug that supresses them and makes them fall unconcious. they then flee from the building and pretend to be infected in oreder to get across the street but their plan is foiled when becky crys out at a dog almost being hit by a truck giving their game away.
as the doctor and Becky scale the stairs leading out of the town to escape the mob they are tracked up the stairs and then the shot is cut to a far long shot of the mob approaching the couple then this shot pans around to a medium shot of Becky and the doctor showing the audience just how close the mob is

the next very important scene is when doctor purnel leaves Becky to scout out the sound of music which turns out leads him to a pod farm as he returns Becky is missing. when he finds her she is extremely exhausted  and can not even stand. then when Miles (the doctor) kisses Becky the non diagetic music changes to a more dramatic tone as the realisation that Becky had slept and had become one of them strikes. Miles continues to run as Becky reveals him by shouting out.

the next and last part of the film begins with the continence of Miles running from the infected people with non diagetic voice over narrative in the background explaining his thoughts he gets to the high way and begins in vain to attempt to warn people of their impending doom. as he stops a truck he is pushed aside and notices in the back are lots of seed pods the next two shots are possibly the most important of the film. the first shot is a medium shot in which Miles is shouting "they're after you, they're after all of us, our wives our children everyone" the next shot changes to an extreme close up of Miles again shouting but this time looking right in to the camera almost speaking to the audience "they're hear already, YOUR ALL NEXT" which very very strongly supports the fears of the time period that this was made, the fear of communism taking over " the red scare"

the next scene fades out of the story and in to wear the audience started the film and where we can assume the story was being told from. it seems the doctors don't believe him and that these aliens will take over the world, but when a body is wheeled in and the orderly explains that they had to dig him out of a collection of strange looking seed pods and that the truck was coming from Santa Mara it all becomes clear to the doctors. they get on the phone and begin to mobilize police units and alert high power authorities. the shot changes to Miles leaning against a wall, he looks relived but exhausted, and with a sense of sadness at what he has had to sacrifice in order to save the world

                                                                    THE END

Zombie's

Zombies are typically slow, mindless drones and who are deemed emotionally vacant whose only purpose is to feed and this is truly their only purpose this links with the invasion because the invaded humans to have no emotion and come across as mindless drones, there are links with the zombie genre and the invasion all the way through the film with such major story line features such as there only being a couple survives against a massive horde of zombies or 'the invaded.

this scene from 'shaun of the dead' which is a classic zombie/ comedy film give almost the same idea to get past the invaded or zombies by pretending to be one and they wont notice. this idea is the main way the main character in the invasion can walk among the invaded to try and find her son.

sci-fi Zombie Blog

sci-fi is the term science fiction shortened, this tital almost says the genre out right sci-fi is traditionally anything that seems 'out of the world' weather that's aliens coming down to enslave the human population or another common topic like space exploration with space ships and weird alien races communicating with ours. sci-fi as a genre is fiction but the science aspect makes the whole genre more interesting because the film topic could actually become true such as space exploration, with new technology, who know's what's possible.
here we have a contrast from new science fiction to old science fiction back in the 1950's

Sci-Fi Zombie Blog

With the films I have chosen in my mood bored it is clear to see the general consensus and general topics that the films look at would be space, and either the exploration of it or the danger of forms of life that we don’t know about from it. Two of the posters on my mood bored are the same movie 'the day the earth stood still' one is the original 1950s and the other a more modern remake. a couple of the films deal with a form of conflict between either space creatures or monsters and us the humans, many of the older films seem to have fairly basic story lines as the technology was not as sophisticated as it is now and so does not give much to having an extravagant story line. the film avatar however contradicts the norm, as its story suggests humans are the ones invading a strange alien life forms planet and trying to destroy it, portraying humanity as the monster. James Cameron could be sending a message here about the world we inhabit. Other such very successful sci-fi films such as Star wars and Star trek hold the theme of space exploration and minor themes such as heroism and friendship. With the new modern remakes of star trek it’s obvious how far the technology for sci-fi film making has come.
The technology for film making has progressed an enormous amount since the 1950's and this is apparent in the films that were made then compared to those made now. The more recent films are able to have more extensive and impressive stories with advances such as better editing equipment, even right down to better cameras and more intuitive shots. Also the advances in technology have enabled film to become a lot more impressive with shots that 'blow the audience away' advances in 3D in avatar for example really took the cinema by storm.

But we must not forget that this is with the knowledge of hindsight, because in the 1950's the films such as 'the day the earth stood still' ( the original) would have been breath taking just as much so as the film avatar is now.

reseach on the oscars

the big winners for best picture and leading actor and actress where:
The Artist
jean Dujardin for his performance in the artist
Meryl Streep for her performance in the iron lady

The Artist won the best picture award

Hugo won the cinematography award

Rango won the animated feature film award

This turned out as not a particularly successful night for British film as only one film that was recognised was British the Iron Lady and even that did not win a direct Oscar as the actress Meryl Streep won the best actress award through it but British films did get some good nominations through war horse and tinker tailor soldier spy.

the list of best picture nominations for the 2012 golden globes is almost identical to that of the oscars and the same with the best actor/actress being almost the same again over in the oscars

iron lady however was not nominated for a golden globe but was nominated for oscars
